Preparation for the senior school begins in Year 10. Students are encouraged to explore the options available and to consider what subject areas they want to experience in readiness for future study in Year 11 and 12.
South East Region's Learning Centre has a diverse range of subjects that can be studied in Years 10, 11 and 12.
First Steps Program
Description: The First Steps Program provides intensive support and individualised instruction in a highly structured manner, for students who have not participated in schooling for a long period due to mental health challenges. This program is led by the Guidance Officer and focuses on socio-emotional learning.
Kick Start Program
Description: The Kick Start Program is a short-term, highly individualised educational support model delivered through the South East Region Learning Centres (Eagleby, Helensvale, Varsity Lakes). It is designed for students who are significantly disengaged from schooling and not accessing curriculum at their enrolled year level. These students often face complex challenges—academic, medical, behavioural, and/or social-emotional—and may have experienced extended periods of school refusal or exclusion.
Grounded in inclusive education policy, trauma-informed care, and the principles of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, the program provides a calm, emotionally safe, and highly structured environment. The aim is to reduce anxiety, promote self-regulation, and re-engage learners in functional education through intensive, individualised strategies. Kick Start serves as a re-entry point to learning, supporting students to transition into appropriate pathways such as the differentiated Year 10 curriculum, the Readiness Program, or other personalised education options.
XTRA10
Description: The XTRA10 program is a modified year 10 that supports students who are disengaged from schooling and not accessing curriculum at their enrolled year level.
The program is a two term highly individualised educational support model delivered through the South East Region Learning Centres. The program emphasises essential literacy and numeracy skills that are practical, functional, and directly connected to everyday life. Personal capabilities is also a key focus, ensuring students develop the core skills to navigate school, community, and future pathways.
